🥐 Bakery Guide
Lawson Bakery
ローソンのパン
Lawson's in-store bakery section is a hidden gem — soft koppe rolls, flaky croissants, fluffy tear-apart breads, and Japanese-style sweet buns you won't find outside of Japan.
Japanese convenience store bread has its own unique character. Rolls are pillowy-soft (shokupan culture runs deep here), fillings are generous, and sweet-savory combinations are masterfully balanced. Lawson's bakery range is updated seasonally — always check the shelf near the store entrance for the latest additions. Most items are individually packaged and perfect for an on-the-go breakfast.
🍞 Koppe Rolls (コッペパン)
¥160
バター香るコッペ 苺ジャム&マーガリン
Butter Koppe Roll — Strawberry Jam & Margarine
A classic Japanese school-lunch-style roll with a rich butter aroma, split and filled with sweet strawberry jam and creamy margarine. Simple, nostalgic, and deeply satisfying — Japanese people of all ages grew up eating this combination.
¥160
バター香るコッペ 粒あん&マーガリン
Butter Koppe Roll — Red Bean Paste & Margarine
The "anko butter" combo is iconic in Japan — chunky sweet red bean paste (tsubu-an) paired with creamy margarine inside a soft, butter-scented roll. The slight saltiness of the margarine perfectly balances the sweetness of the anko. A must-try for first-time visitors!
🥐 Sweet Pastries & Croissants
¥171
チョコクロワッサン
Chocolate Croissant
A golden, flaky croissant with a rich chocolate filling baked right in. Lawson's version is slightly sweeter and softer than a traditional French croissant — designed to be eaten at room temperature straight from the bag. Perfect as a quick morning snack or afternoon pick-me-up.
¥160
ダブルホイップクロワッサン
Double Whipped Cream Croissant
A light, flaky croissant stuffed with a generous double serving of airy whipped cream. The cream is lighter and less sweet than Western versions — it melts on your tongue with just a hint of sweetness. A popular choice for those who want something indulgent but not heavy.
¥203
さっくりとした三角チョコパイ
Crispy Triangle Chocolate Pie
A triangular puff pastry filled with rich chocolate cream and baked to a satisfying crunch. The contrast of the shatteringly crisp pastry layers and smooth chocolate inside is addictive. It's pocket-sized and incredibly good value for a genuine pastry-shop quality experience.
¥181
バター香るパンスイス チョコ&カスタード
Butter Pastry — Chocolate & Custard
A soft butter-rich pastry swirled with layers of chocolate and custard cream. Think of it as a Japanese spin on a pain suisse — the combination of vanilla custard and dark chocolate is a classic pairing that works beautifully in this soft, pillowy format.
🍞 Fluffy Japanese-Style Breads
¥203
もっちりとしたパン チーズだらけ
Super Chewy Bread — Loaded with Cheese
An ultra-chewy (mochiri) bread dough that's been stuffed and topped with an almost unreasonable amount of melted cheese. The bread has a slight chew like mochi, making it unique to Japanese bread-making. A dream for cheese lovers — rich, savory, and satisfying as a snack or light meal.
¥192
ふわふわちぎりパン チョコだらけ
Fluffy Tear-Apart Bread — Chocolate Overload
A pull-apart loaf of ultra-fluffy rolls absolutely loaded with chocolate — both swirled inside the dough and drizzled on top. The "chigiri pan" tear-apart style is designed to be enjoyed piece by piece, making it great for sharing (or not!). Incredibly soft with a pillowy, cloud-like texture.
¥138
メロンパン
Melon Pan (Japanese Sweet Bun)
One of Japan's most iconic breads — a soft, fluffy interior wrapped in a crumbly, sweet cookie-like crust scored in a cross-hatch melon pattern. Despite the name, it doesn't taste like melon — the name comes from the melon-like appearance. Best enjoyed fresh, though the soft interior always stays delicious.
🥐 Bread Shopping Tips
- Fresh stock time: Most Lawson bakery items are delivered in the morning. For the best selection, shop between 8–10am.
- Room temperature is fine: All packaged breads are designed to be eaten at room temperature — no need to heat them (though warming a koppe roll for 15 seconds makes it even better!)
- Pairs perfectly with Machi Café: Pick up a hot coffee or café latte from the Machi Café counter right next to the register for a complete breakfast under ¥400.
- Check the expiry: Most breads last 1–3 days. They're perfect for taking back to your hotel for tomorrow's breakfast.
