Lawson Hot Foods
ローソンのホットスナック

From Japan's most beloved convenience store fried chicken to steamy chukaman buns — Lawson's hot counter is packed with fresh, made-to-order bites that are a must for any visitor.

Lawson's hot food counter (ホットスナック) is located near the register and always freshly restocked. Items are displayed in a heated case behind the counter — just point at what you want, or say the name. Most hot foods are served in a small bag or tray. You can eat them right outside the store — benches are often available nearby. Note: not all items are available at all locations; seasonal items come and go.

⭐ からあげクン — Lawson's Signature Fried Chicken

からあげクン (Karaage-kun) is Lawson's most iconic hot snack and one of the most recognizable convenience store foods in Japan. Each pack contains 5 bite-sized, perfectly seasoned fried chicken pieces — juicy inside with a light, crispy coating. Launched in 1986, it has sold over 4 billion pieces. Several flavors are available at any given time, with seasonal and regional varieties rotating throughout the year.

Lチキ レギュラー ¥248 ⭐ No.2 Star
Lチキ レギュラー
L-Chiki Regular Fried Chicken
Lawson's second fried chicken icon — Lチキ (L-Chiki) is a single large piece of bone-in fried chicken with thick, juicy meat and a seasoned, crispy skin. While からあげクン is bite-sized boneless pieces, L-Chiki is a bigger, heartier single piece more like a fast food chicken leg. Great for a filling snack.

ジャンボアメリカンドッグ
Jumbo American Dog (Corn Dog)
A jumbo-sized corn dog — a thick, lightly sweet cornmeal batter coating a plump pork sausage on a stick. The Japanese "American dog" is a beloved classic that's been sold at convenience stores and school festivals for decades. Pairs well with mustard and ketchup — grab sachets from the condiment stand.

ジャイアントポークフランク ¥208
ジャイアントポークフランク
Giant Pork Frankfurter
A seriously large pork sausage on a stick, grilled to a juicy snap. The skin bursts with meaty pork flavors and a satisfying pop when you bite in. Add yellow mustard from the condiment stand and this rivals any Wurst you'd find at a European street market — but at a fraction of the price.

大きなイカフライ ¥205
大きなイカフライ
Large Squid Fry
A generous ring of squid in a light, crispy breading — deep-fried to golden perfection. Japanese squid fry (ika fry) has a distinctive tender chew that's quite different from calamari — the batter is thicker and the seasoning is more savory. A classic Japanese izakaya flavor in snack form.

牛肉メンチ ¥150
牛肉メンチ
Beef Menchi Katsu (Beef Croquette Patty)
A round beef patty — a mix of minced beef and onion — breaded and deep fried to create a Japanese "menchi katsu." The outside is crunchily golden, while the inside is a juicy, savory beef mixture. This is a true Japanese comfort food and a great budget bite.

春巻き ¥106
春巻き
Spring Roll
A shatteringly crispy spring roll packed with savory vegetable and pork filling. At just ¥106, this is one of the best value hot snacks in the entire convenience store. The thin pastry shell fries to an impossibly light crunch. Eat it immediately while the wrapper is still shattering-crisp.

❄️ Chukaman Steam Buns — Seasonal (Oct–Mar)
❄️
Chukaman (中華まん) are seasonal winter items, typically available from October through March. These steamed Chinese-style buns are kept warm on a bamboo steamer at the hot counter. Ask the staff to hand you one from the steamer — they're served in a small paper bag.

Nikuman — Pork Steamed Bun
The original and most beloved — a fluffy, thick white bun filled with a juicy seasoned pork and vegetable mixture. The filling is rich with soy, sesame, and ginger. Eating a hot nikuman while walking down a cold street is one of the quintessential Japanese winter experiences.

ピザまん
Pizza Man — Pizza Steamed Bun
A fluffy steamed bun filled with tomato sauce, melted cheese, and pizza-style seasoning. The bun is softer and moister than a pizza dough, giving the "pizza man" a uniquely Japanese spin on pizza flavors. A popular choice with kids and adults alike for its familiar taste in a novel format.

あんまん
Anman — Sweet Red Bean Bun
A steamed bun filled with smooth, sweet azuki red bean paste (anko). The warm, soft bun and the gently sweet filling make this the dessert version of the nikuman. Perfect after a savory karaage-kun or as an afternoon sweet treat. The slight sweetness pairs beautifully with green tea or black coffee.

🍗 Hot Food Ordering Tips

  • How to order: Hot snacks are behind the counter — just point or say the name. The staff will bag it up for you. Saying "karaage-kun kudasai" (からあげクンください) for one pack works perfectly.
  • からあげクン flavors change: Lawson regularly rotates regional and seasonal flavors (e.g., truffle, mentaiko, wasabi). Keep an eye on the case — you might find a limited edition you won't see anywhere else.
  • Eat immediately: Hot snacks are best eaten within 10–15 minutes of purchase. They don't reheat well once they cool down.
  • Chukaman season: Steam buns are only available in cooler months (Oct–March). If you visit in summer, they won't be on the counter.
  • Condiments: Check the small dispenser near the register for mustard, ketchup, and soy sauce packets — free with your purchase.
※ Products, prices, and availability may vary by region and season. Prices include consumption tax. Information current as of April 2026. Chukaman items are seasonal (approx. October–March).
